This seminar will teach attendees about the history of surveying in Florida. History is an important part of any profession, especially surveyors and mappers. Attendees will gain knowledge and insight about the history of the land on which they work.

Dr. Joe Knetsch worked for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of State Lands, Bureau of Survey and Mapping for twenty-eight years. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in History from Florida State University in 1990. Dr. Knetsch has worked as the historian for the Governor and Cabinet, sitting as the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, since 1987. He has published over 200 articles and reviews on Florida history. Dr. Knetsch has given over 200 papers on the topic of Florida history, surveying and genealogy. He is now a “consulting” historian working in Tallahassee.
