This course relates to the practice of surveying and mapping as defined in Chapter 472 F.S.. It instructs and informs the attendee on the NEW FEMA Elevation Certificate and the relevance to the Community Rating System and the importance of correct form completion. It also focuses on who is and is not authorized to complete this form, as well as when and where it may be requested.


Bob Strayer, PSM Owner of Strayer Surveying and Mapping, Inc. in Venice, Florida since 1995. Prior to that Mr. Strayer was President and majority shareholder of Leslie, Hicks, Strayer & Associates, Inc. in Venice, which began in 1987 and later became Strayer Surveying and Mapping, Inc.  Mr. Strayer has 33 year’s experience as a Surveyor. He began his field experience in Gainesville, Florida. Returning back to Venice in 1980 where he became employed as a field Surveyor and later a Project Superintendent. Mr. Strayer attended Manatee Community College and The University of Florida, he obtained his Florida Professional Surveying & Mapping license in 1991.





B. Gregory Rieth, PSM started in the surveying field at what began as a summer job. He was first hired in 1976 to help on a survey crew of J. Patrick Moore, L.L.S. in Corning, New York working on a drainage study. At that time, he thought it was the best job he ever had – making $2.30 per hour. After nine years of surveying in New York, Mr. Rieth moved to Florida. He worked for three firms: DMK Group, Inc., Bishop & Associates, and Landry & Esber before arriving at his present firm Strayer Surveying & Mapping, Inc. in 1996. He has held several positions at the Chapter level of FSMS and has served as District 5 Director and Vice President on the state level.
